"Dear Ask Alison,
My hands become dry every winter, but this year they are particularly dry and painful at times. I've been doing much more handwashing over the past year as I am a mother of a ten month old. I've tried several over the counter creams and dousing my hands in Vaseline overnight to help, but nothing seems to solve this issue. Any suggestions?"

I definitely feel your pain on this one! The winter months can be brutal on our skin and hair. Here are a few tried and true natural remedies that will protect your skin from the dry winter air:
- Coconut Hand Salve: Combine equal parts coconut oil and Shea butter and massage into dry areas. This one is good for overnight (with gloves). During winter months, this mixture will remain in a solid state, but warming it up with the fingers will help for easier application.
- Honey Hand Lotion: For less intense protection during the day, try mixing 2 parts almond oil with 1 part beeswax and honey. Raw honey has both antimicrobial and hydrating properties and the beeswax will help hold the ingredient together.
