book review: november project

As a working mother, I am in awe of those who find the time to adhere to complicated fitness programs and expensive studio or gym memberships. I’m lucky to get in a walk after dinner or a few moments alone on my yoga mat. I know that many of you are in the same boat!

Enter, November Project. No membership fees, no exclusivity, no complicated routines, special equipment or t-shirts (well, you can make your own t-shirt). This grassroots fitness movement is all about showing up-wherever you are in your fitness journey- and going for it.

The brainchild of Brogan Graham and Bojan Mandaric, November Project was started in Boston as a way to stay in shape during the cold months, and has grown into a nationwide community of “tribes,” who are keeping the momentum all year long. Some of the exercises include: “Hoistees” (a partner squat-jump) and “Full-Frontals” (running up and down a hill 6 times fast).

You certainly don’t need a book to tell you how to do these things. The real purpose behind the book and social media outlets is to encourage a community of accountability, inspiration, and acceptance. The city is your gym and the community is your trainer.

The book contains a lot backstory about Brogan and Bojan in the book, and it’s certainly not a cover-to-cover read, but I recommend browsing some of the sections and checking them out on social media. Better yet: start your own tribe!! Learn more here: http://november-project.com

Alison, there was recently an article in the Kansas City Star about a group of people who meet for these workouts with their tribe! It sounds neat!
